about

Happy Thanksgiving friends! As a little bonus we have "Congratulations" by the epic A Wilhelm Scream.

I had heard of AWS a few times because of music magazines and fliers, but never listened to them, until my pals, the Diener brothers, gave me this record, and I was floored. This band is one of, if not the best, in the punk rock game. They shred, they sing 3 part harmonies, and Trevor's lyrics are deep and emotional. They're one of the only bands where I still jump in the pit. When Let Me Run played the Fest in 2012, I ran into their set jumped into the crowd and was lifted into the air as I screamed along. A couple years later, I was able to hear this very song live at the legendary Asbury Lanes (the REAL Asbury Lanes) all because they knew I wanted to hear it. A Wilhelm Scream is killer and I would follow them into battle.

This song scratched a lot of personal itches. First off, it was my first musical reunion with my brother, Corey Perez, since our last LMR Show almost 7(!) years ago. Making music with Corey is super fun and he absolutely murdered his tracks. This also was the first time I got to make something with Nick and Jono Diener, who have been friends of mine for over a decade now. I met them when their band, The Swellers, was on tour with other friends and since then we've been really tight, and they're so damn talented it hurts sometimes. Funny enough, 9 years ago those boys shared a Thanksgiving meal with me and my mom while they were on tour and in the area, so it's only right we post this tonight. And in the spirit of firsts, this was also the first time I got to make something with the severely talented Rob Carducci. Rob popped by for a masked up recording session and we spent most of it hanging out and talking about the world, which is not surprising in the least.

There's not much to say about the making of this one; everybody sent me their tracks and I dropped them into the project. Also, it's 90 seconds, so not a lot can happen. While all the tracks came together super easily from their respective corners of the world, the final mix was a little tricky to nail everything down. Sometimes you just need to change a little plugin magic to make things work, and then let the song sail out into the world. I tend to overthink most things in my life, but letting a song just be has been a nice exercise in pushing past my own boundaries. I'm not trying to be neurotic ALL the time anymore, haha.

As this month winds down, and we're faced with increased cases of Covid-19, I keep getting reminded how much organizations, like Tiny Changes, are the lifeline for so many people who are struggling. As I type this, my own mental health struggles and treatment have resulted in about 6 hours of sleep across 2 whole days. I'm real burnt out, and that's not even because of the millions of scary things in the world. I can't imagine what it would be like to be a kid right now; how frightening and uncertain the world around me would be. Tiny Changes seeks to help kids not get overwhelmed by this stuff, and keep them safe and healthy, so please donate to them if you can.

That's it for now. We'll be back this weekend with the final song of Covered-20, but in the meantime, STAY THE FUCK HOME AND WEAR A MASK. There will be other Thanksgivings. There will be other opportunities to see your friends and family when you wont run the risk of killing them, or others, just by sharing space. Please just be kind to each other.

Love to you all, stay safe, and enjoy a day of overeating. Cheers!
